Shopper's profile

I caved and picked up a few basic sweaters from Zara, Madewell and ASOS.  With the weather finally cooling down and beautiful knits for as far as your eyes can see, it was a hard thing to resist.  By the way, today's one of those awesome and rare overcast days in L.A. where being at home, curled up on my couch with my piping hot green tea latte (and babies peacefully napping) feels so so perfectly cozy.

A little about my shopping track record:  I'm not a huge shopper, believe it or not.  In fact, most of the time, it feels like a huge tedious chore to go out there and sift through stuff, try it on, have the inner dialogue about whether it's worth the price, whether I'll be able to wear it for a while, whether it's versatile enough, etc.  Of course, I'll admit there's the occasional splurge where the inner dialogue is completely silenced by impulse or lust/love at first sight or self-reward, but that's sort of occasional.

My philosophy is that you can look like a million bucks without having to wince when you see your credit card statement if you have a discerning eye and are able to mix and match both low end (think Forever 21, Nordstrom Rack, H&M, etc.) with nice and maybe more pricey staples (think well-fitting jeans, classic blazers a pair of great flats, etc.)

Another thing is, simplicity is key.  I totally appreciate those whose outfits are basically an art form, but especially now that I have two little ones who more than keep me busy, I don't want to spend more than a couple of minutes (or waste any of my precious and now few brain cells) thinking about how to assemble an outfit, how to layer the pieces, etc. (etc. is my word of the day).  A basic top, well-tailored trousers/jeans and maybe a piece of jewelry or belt to add an accent to the whole look and out the door I go!

Today was a purely comfort type of day though.  The nuggets had their 6 month vaccinations today so I had to be prepared to be soaked with tears (both theirs and mine), spit up and the like.

it's going to be ok bro

Have a really good weekend you guys!

  5. I completely agree with you on the whole looking great without having to regret all your purchases at the end of the day. I used to be such a bad shopper, buying everything pricey that was thrown at me. I love h&m, zara, jcrew, madewell, gap and mixing those with some vintage pieces. and sometimes it makes shopping more fun to find something great that fits your budget.
