I'm still alive!

Hi out there!  Just wanted to let you know I'm still alive...  I decided that I needed to focus on a few projects this past month and as you might be able to imagine, twins + a few projects = no time!  BUT... I'll be back in full force come 2012.  Can't believe it's already just right around the corner!  In the meantime, here's a video to brighten your day!

Time to take out those shears

I'm in dire need of a hair cut.  Like I haven't touched it since before, way before, the nuggets came into this world.  Not to mention that I'm still going through the mad post-pregnancy hair shedding phase.  Every morning, I leave a wig in our shower.  Lovely, yes?

The thing is, it's always tied up these days.  Come to think of it, it's always been tied up, even pre-babies, whenever it reaches the stage where it can be tied up (with the help of a million bobby pins and gel).  It's a result of laziness, efficiency and not being good with long hair.

And I've always been sort of a short hair girl.  For the most part, it's always been above my shoulders and a few years back, I decided to go super duper short:

I love short hair because it just feels more stylish and fresh.  But let's face the facts.  I literally spend zero minutes on my hair post shower so I won't be getting any sort of hairstyle that requires any maintenance or styling.

So that's sort of why I haven't done anything with my hair until now.  I have no idea what I'd like the end result to be.

Side swept bangs with layered bottom?

Busy busy

So mama's flying solo this week and perhaps from now on (which may explain the sporadic posts).  At least for most of the day, until someone comes and rescues me from the bottles, dishes, trays, toys up to my neck by day's end.  And guess what?  I've been loving it (at least for the past few days).

I'm by nature a huge multi-tasker and also need structure to my day and that's exactly what is happening by necessity.  Juggling two mobile 7-month olds is a formidable task, but I'm up for it!  I enjoy feeling 100% productive, as frazzling as it may be at times, and also having the privacy I've craved ever since having full time help here (never been much of a team player).  People may say I'm crazy for choosing to go at this alone, but now I can be as goofy, as mushy and as entertaining as I want.

But of course I need to carve out some me time to keep my mind stimulated and my creative juices flowing so finding that perfect balance may take some rearranging and figuring out.

That's my life in a nutshell this week so please bear with me as I get into this groove.

On a different note, is fall finally here or what??  I've been waiting in eager anticipation, with sweaters in hand, pumpkin spice lattes in tow, scarves at the ready, but we still have the random hot day here and there.  Granted, I live in LA but still... I'm so ready for it to be cold and stay cold.  Today is perfectly overcast though, and guess what arrived?  My Rachel Comey Barbaro boots.

Perfect timing and perfect shoe for this season.

Another year older, a new chapter

I hope everyone had a peaceful weekend!  Mine was spent celebrating with close friends and family and mothering, mothering and mothering some more.

Birthdays are usually just another day for me, and as I get older, they become less and less significant.  This year, my birthday marks the beginning of a new chapter of my life as a full time mom for my twins. To celebrate the occasion as well as our upcoming anniversary, my husband surprised me with this!

My hubs is a very thoughtful man indeed.

And... my first attempt at making home made baby food.  For all you women / men out there making five-course meals every night, give a girl some credit!  Prior to this, I didn't even own, let alone know what a hand immersion blender was.  So yes, this makes me a very proud girl.

Why the odd shaped bits?  Because I forgot to peel them beforehand so I had to resort to using a paring knife.

Waiting patiently to get their grub on

Voila!

Thumbs up mom!

Oh, and why was I mothering so much this weekend you ask?  Because this is what hubs was doing for most of it:

Taking conference calls in the closet is what he's resorted to for some peace and quiet.

Closing time

Exactly 1.5 hours until it's closing time here.  All the packing's done, many good byes have been said and I had my final meeting with my boss.  Had a pretty honest discussion about future plans for the both of us and sentiments about leaving the law- me to be with my twins and take a different direction in my life, and him, to retire and also take a different direction in his life.  All said, it was a great wrap up to my career as an attorney.  I almost wish he would have been upset or cold or less appreciative so I'd have more of a "to hell with you all!" attitude as I left.  Have I mentioned how I'm not good at good byes?  Ha.

So here we go.  We'll see if I start a new blog called "Out of Office Off" in half a year, but for now, to infinity and beyond!  Cheers!

Hubby's Congratulations for Leaving Flowers next to his Congratulations for Being Back at Work Flowers, all in a matter of 1.5 months.  Ha.

Until then...

5 days until I'm out of the office for good... Both excited and a little anxious at the same time.  I'm excited to break away from safety and predictability and excited to follow what's in my heart... Let's see what lies ahead.  I'm taking a break from this new blogging thing to wrap things up on this front.  See you guys next week on the other side!

It is done...

Refer to item #3 in list from previous post.  Check.

So after much anguish and deliberation, I finally pulled the trigger.  I gave notice.  It's sort of a huge deal and for fear of getting a panic attack thinking about what I've done, I won't talk about it too much.

I've been a working stiff for 6 years now- 4 years practicing corporate law at a big firm and 2 years at a studio practicing entertainment law.  Prior to then, I freelanced as a musician but I don't consider that work.  At least not in comparison to what I've been doing for the past 6 years.  I don't want to bore (my imaginary audience nor myself) with an extra long post, but I think it's time.  The law's been both good and bad to me, but my main problem with it is:  a) the lack of flexibility; and b) the lack of inspiration.

I have two nuggets now who are my two hearts.  I want to be able to water them and watch them grow and the 1.5 hours a day I've been able to spend with them (on a good day) is just not cutting it.  I also want to explore interests and cultivate them.  Dabble in this and that and hopefully gravitate towards whatever speaks to me.  Being stuck in an office day in and day out wasn't helping me out in this respect.

Of course my type A, prideful, overachieving, totally risk averse self is still wringing my hands a bit, but hopefully that'll wane with time and discovery.  And hopefully the guilt I feel will shrivel up and go away along with the traditional ideas of success and achievement.

So here's to the two weeks I have left practicing law.  May you pass both quickly and slowly.

This blogging stuff...

Hi.  I mentioned in my last post that I was hoping this blog would be some sort of release for me.  Those who know me know that I'm as type A as you can get, I'm risk averse, I'm a control freak and then some, I'm hypercritical.  Hello, I'm a Virgo.  So guess what?  Even though no one even knows about this blog, not even my husband, and I'm talking to basically myself (sad), I'm stressed by it.  Yup, that's me.  Wracking my brain for things to write about but striking each idea just as it pops into my head.  The backspace button is my new friend.  It saves me from embarrassment.  Ha.

I just need someone to give me a topic to write about and tell me that it's due by first thing tomorrow.  Please!  Of course as I clicked the "create blog" button on some fabulously creative and hilarious blogger's page, I had visions of grandeur.  Oh, my page is going to be a stylish mix of this and that, splashed with some totally deep insightful peeks into my mind, with a dash of fabulosity and a whole lot of awesomeness!  It's going to be a stream of consciousness thang, because hello?  My stream of consciousness flows with gold.  Boo.  Stressed.

One thing I am confident about:  how scrumptious they are, my wriggly giggly things (btw, got that from "I Kissed the Baby!"  A baby book which was clearly written while the author was as high as a kite)!!!

Hee hee!

So much emotion

Muah!

This thing on?

A proper introduction:  I'm a seeker of beauty, a private spazz dancer, a hole in the wall eater, a classical musician a lifetime ago, a blog reading junkie, an attorney (but don't you ever call me that to my face), a friend, a daughter, a wife and most recently, a mother of two embodiments of perfect love.  I aspire to be a professional dabbler in the near future.

What's the point of this blog?  I don't know.  I'm hoping it will give me some sort of release from the every minute of every day droning nature of my job.  The whining ends here though because no one likes to listen to a whiner, and I truly believe one should change their circumstances if they find themselves whiiiining endlessly about it.  Done.

A glance into my little universe:

Put my two nuggets into a swing for the very first time this past weekend.

Why is this photo so big?  I clearly need a tutorial in blogging.
Ok.  I find this picture heartbreakingly adorable.  Yeah, yeah... I'm his mom, but the whiteknuckling of the chain, the muffin feet just barely sticking out of the leg holes, the hat without a face.  He can't talk yet but everything about him says to me, "mom, get me out of this deathtrap!"

What I'm looking at right now (I swear this isn't indirect whining):

You can admit it without me getting a big head.  You find this totally inspiring.
